Aris was developed as my final project during my studies at the University of Southampton.
The initial aim for the project was to develop some way to help students to learn using their mobile device.
The final result was an android app that would interact with the user, asking them every day how their studying was going.
If the user was struggling then the application would suggest advice like changing study environment or find a TED talk online to inspire the user to carry on.
The idea behind the design was to make Aris seem like a digital person, so users would build a relationship with it. It would be sad if the user was performing badly, or happy if they were doing well.
This was chosen to attempt to reduce lying to the application and to evoke emotional responses in the user to motivate them to study more.
